Alexander D. and Lucy E. Henderson
Alexander D. Henderson came from a family who believed in helping others. His father was a successful businessman and first Treasurer for The California Perfume Company which later became Avon Products. Alexander carried on his father’s legacy in business and in philanthropy, near his home in Broward County, Florida, with a focus on youth and education. Some of Alexander’s early philanthropic work included founding the Hillsboro Country Day School and significant contributions to Henderson Behavioral Health, Saint Andrew’s School, and the A. D. Henderson University School at Florida Atlantic University.
Alexander and his wife Lucy founded the A. D. Henderson Foundation in 1959 to help improve the education and support systems for children to ensure that all children reach their full potential.
When Alexander passed away in 1964 at age 69, Lucy carried on his legacy. Upon Lucy’s death in 1991 at age 81, a significant portion of her estate endowed the A.D. Henderson Foundation to continue its good work for generations to come. Since 1993, over $69 million has been invested in communities in South Florida and the State of Vermont.
